Sad to have heard that might be closing down. But they've managed to raise $70k in just a few hours as of this tweet. As a reporter for a listener-supported station in a state with so few independent nonprofit news outlets, I feel we're all in this together.

The enabled me to write my deepest stories, like this one about the Lipan Apaches and being "Labeled Hispanic" in Texas. It was rejected by many publications before it found its home at the Observer, without which it might never have run.
