Let me explain why anybody who is for lockdowns is using grandma as a human shield I’ve repeatedly linked to this thread by , but I want to explain it is my own words People are not seeing the sheer hypocracy and cowardness of the “every life counts” bullshit 1

[1/n] Well @gummibear737 pushed me into a position to have to explain our theory of how universal mitigations (for ex. lockdowns) kill over time more people than what Sweden did.

By locking down, you are ensuring that the 20 year old grandson has the same chance of getting the virus as his 80 year old grandma Despite being about 400x less likely to die, we prefer they each have an equal chance of getting the virus Don’t wanna infect grandma afterall! 2

But it doesn’t work that way The grandson is going to be careful But that doesn’t mean grandma isn’t going to be infected by someone else - example: grandson’s friend who mows grandma’s lawn The longer the virus circulates the greater the chance to infect grandma 3

Now if the grandson (+ friend) goes off to college, eventually gets the virus Maybe he’s a little sick, maybe he’s asymptomatic But he gets over it, he’s no longer a danger to grandma or anybody else’s grandma Same for the grandson’s friend who mows grandma’s lawn 4

Lockdowns ensure that vulnerable people have an equal chance at infection as people who are not at risk How is this protecting the elderly? If you knew you were 400x less likely to die than grandma would you say: “okay, let’s draw straws grandma?” 5

But the ‘long term health sequelae” for young people!?!? Yeah, that’s all BS. The unlucky few will have some lasting sequelae, but it’s no different than flu which we don’t freak out about I’m frequently reflect on this account about the 1957 pandemic - there was no panic 6

A fantastic account by someone who lived through the 1957 pandemic: "College sports events were not canceled, planes and trains continued to run...We took the Asian flu in stride. We said our prayers and took our chances." 5 city-journal.org/1957-asian-flu

We are not thinking rationally We are not considering all variables in crafting public health As wrote: we are gambling that a virus will save us In the meantime, we are facilitating the demise of our elders, when most of us are at virtually no risk 7
