Never ask a question to which you don’t already know the answer. Do admissions, interrogs and doc requests first. Have in hand EVERY doc you cross about.

I have seen that some of newer house members are more prepared. They spend less time on talking points and more time on questions
-
@aoc was splendid in the Cohen hearing. She was prepared and that’s 99% of the job, right there. -
Agreed. That is who I was thinking of in particular. She knew exactly where she was going.
@AOC also did it with drug pricing. It was also educational-it makes you feel like part of the inquiry. -
They don’t get the credit they deserve, probably because they are one-time pros, but Senators Klobuchar and Harris are both supremely gifted interrogators. They will cut your throat, and you’ll never even feel the sting of the blade. They should charge tuition to Trey Gowdy.
-
I wonder if they provide training for Senators and Congresspersons. I think the hearings would really shift towards solid fact finding (at least by one party).
-
From the general speechifying and primping that goes on in the average hearing it's pretty clear that if they do, they need to increase it.
-
They would have to really want to work at it, which would automatically disqualify a depressing number of Members who could really benefit from the training. I guess it’s “self-selection.”

All questions should only be answered by “Yes” or “No”. No vague or misleading answers. Make them binary.

How about we get some of those Freshmen Congresswomen to ask the questions. They seem to get right to the point!

No. Never ask a question you don’t know the answer to. Why? Is a great question when you already know the answer and have the evidence in hand - especially if he tries to lie. Then you get to use the “are you lying now, or were you lying then?”

Better yet, hire a professional with experience in cross-examining smart witnesses to do the questioning.
-
They should all cede their time to the rep who is a long-time trial lawyer. I can’t remember the name.

Why is that....? Curious.
-
Because they either say, “I don’t know” or offer some BS explanation and you can’t object or strike it because you asked and opened the door.
-
nteresting. I was thinking open ended questions where a good thing in general as more info can be drawn out of it. Also, a person can potential hang themselves with open ended questions. Quite interesting
-
Effective cross involves leading questions, which are permitted (unlike direct questioning). You are literally putting words in their mouth. It’s an effective way to root out a liar.
