I can't think of a time when there was a clear religious-secular divide in Roman life. I understand the Republic did away with the king, but they kept his priestly role (Rex Sacrorum) and most educated Romans were skeptical about things like Auspicion etc
right, so you could talk about why a ball moves without people going "the gods make it move" which even though it might be true in a metaphysical sense of ultimate cause, is fogging up the distinctions
