reading Alex ranting about transit makes me think, how many of America’s problems are really funding problems? We have plenty of cash to throw around (or seen to) but how much is wasted on slush funds and graft?

Projects we could do 50 years ago now take ten times longer and cost twenty times as much. Seems like no one has the will or ambition anymore.

the structures involved, which are democratic, inherently have the idea that you can't do anything without getting everyone to agree, and most semi-important people are not going to agree unless they get a piece of the pie.

most corruption in congress is explicitly the fact that in order to get anyone to vote for a necessary measure you have to give them something, even more so because they know how badly you need to pass this measure
