There's all sorts of batshit stuff in there. I don't remember if it's the main spec or a proposed addendum but there was also a working group looking into doing opportunistic mesh networking over DAB. This was based on a previous part of the spec on tunnelling Ethernet over it.

Radios do, however, frequently implement the bit of the spec where a multiplex can transmit station art as a JPEG or PNG. This is fun because some DAB receivers, particularly modern head units in cars, run libpng to decode these. Which has an exploitable RCE in older versions.

You know you're having a fun day when you're trying to figure out how to port a libpng exploit to QNX on an automotive ARM64 platform.

MPEG-4 includes standards for encoding 3D mesh and skeletal animation data. Wonder if anyone ever shipped an implementation of that! https://mpeg.chiariglione.org/standards/mpeg-4/animation-framework-extension-afx …

According to an old article, Toshiba were working on embedding animatronic control data onto the HD DVD format. I wonder if anyone would have used that feature had the format won against blu ray!https://gizmodo.com/hd-dvds-animatronic-secret-weapon-not-enough-to-defeat-360568 …

Doesn't BlueRay also support Java-applets? Maybe they jumped on the band-wagon there. How much is it used on BR anyway?
-
Both DVD and BR have Java support.

Shame all the UK broadcasters opted for such low bitrates on DAB. Many of the stations sound awful.
-
Yeah Kerrang was 92kbps MPEG2 Part 3 iirc when I last listened to it. Awful quality.
