Healthcare workers: Do not cooperate with the police on this. Research the laws that empower us to say no to requests for information. We all have spent years in training to provide care, not to prop up fascism.

This statement is false, ahistorical, and completely out of touch with the realities of today. The violence of our housing system is the outcome of decades of profit-first policy. We can’t rely on the profiteers to solve a problem that makes them rich.

HUD @SecFudge: "We have to use the private sector as partners to try to make sure that we can build to scale. And the only way to do that is to make it profitable for them to build [affordable housing]."

I wrote this as part of ’s symposium on decommodifying urban property. It’s about how law can be used to help build tenant power through a framework of supports for tenant unions and mandatory collective bargaining over housing conditions.

Study by finds elected officials depend on a promise of housing to try to justify the displacement of unhoused people. The “housing” promised is often temporary shelter, subject to exclusionary criteria & isolating rules.

People that don't live in cities that are 100-miles to the border don't understand how heavily policed and militarized this area is. Like Ulvade, McAllen, Laredo, Zapata, all these cities under constant watch by state troopers, local police departments, border patrol, ICE.

Thread with resources for abolition and defund. We need to organize and act.

It’s just so incredibly important to channel the righteous anger at everything cops allowed, at the way they even physically stopped parents from doing anything, into action. Taking money from cops and putting it into housing and healthcare and more would save countless lives.

1/ The South is home to more LGBTQ+ people than anywhere else in the U.S. Meanwhile, Southern legislators are pushing violent policies to hide this truth. Trans kids in particular are being threatened—and not just in Texas. 🧵 A thread on how to show solidarity in this moment:

How we treat our unhoused neighbors is indicative of our priorities as a society. Tomorrow, DC, with our tax dollars, will evict a large homeless encampment, in the winter, in a worsening pandemic, and with many residents not being offered or having received housing. Shame.

How do we pay land or rent tax? If you live in DC, go to piscatawayindians.com and scroll down to the very bottom. Choose “Rent/LandTax” button and sign-up to make monthly payments. Don't live in the DMV? Go to native-land.ca to find out who's land you're living on.

"By contextualizing [racial appreciation gap data] within a history of racism + property ownership, the authors show how under racial capitalism, homeownership does not provide intergenerational wealth accumulation for Black people the way it was designed to do for white people."

Study found that neighborhoods with higher incomes experienced higher home price appreciation in majority-white & racially diverse neighborhoods, majority-Black neighborhoods do not experience the same relationship. urbn.is/2Y4ZQPK

There's not a humanitarian crisis *at* the border, as though it were a backdrop. The border *is* the crisis—it causes & creates the suffering. There's not a humanitarian crisis *at* Rikers—framing city council has used to victim-blame folks locked up—Rikers *is* the crisis (etc)
