@gruber@marcoarment@jdalrymple@MyDarkroom@iMore@reneritchie I gotta give their IT guy credit--he's got a classic 1998 attitude - View other replies

@jsnell@gruber@marcoarment@jdalrymple I actually agree with the overall point, but the second they wrote "(Apple Tax required)" they lost - View other replies

@cabel@gruber@marcoarment@jdalrymple what's the overall point? That a homebuilt water cooled PC w/o retina runs Lightroom faster? -
@jsnell@gruber@marcoarment@jdalrymple To me it's a broader "Mac performance has lagged behind PC performance more than I can remember" - View other replies
-
@cabel@gruber@marcoarment@jdalrymple for custom built yes, from regular vendors the perf has generally been identical at identical prices - View other replies
-
@jsnell@cabel@gruber@marcoarment@jdalrymple Also, Adobe software has always been slower on Mac, whatever the hardware… -
@otolithe@jsnell@cabel@marcoarment@jdalrymple Lightroom was Mac-first, though, if I recall correctly. -
@gruber@jsnell@cabel@marcoarment@jdalrymple doesn’t mean it would have better performance… Photoshop too was Mac first.

@gruber@marcoarment that imac should cost $2500-3000 instead. Too overpriced - View other replies
-
@sjaay@marcoarment “Should” based on demand (what people are willing to pay), or based on commodity PC component pricing? -
@gruber@marcoarment based on what a similar pc would cost -
@sjaay@marcoarment That’s not how pricing actually works. -
@gruber@marcoarment Yeah I know, R&D costs, etc etc. But creating a similar pc is a good comparison

@gruber true. But keep the link just in case next time Lightroom freezes on you! :) - View other replies

@MyDarkroom@gruber Does it freeze on you a lot? I run Lightroom on a 2013 rMbp and it never freezes. RAW files, large library, etc. -

@gruber@marcoarment@jdalrymple@MyDarkroom@iMore@reneritchie iMac is a bad place to target if you want to make Apple look bad right now. -
@AbomAnemone I really dont want to make Apple look bad. They are. I love my iMac but starting to realize where Apple is taking desktops to. -
@MyDarkroom I think we could have a long, interesting discussion about this. The iMac still has a trump card. That truly excellent display. -
@AbomAnemone Indeed! Love that display! No doubt the selling point! Interesting Apple hasn’t updated the Apple Display, eh? - View other replies
-
@MyDarkroom The reason it works in the iMac is because it’s integrated. Apple external displays never have enough interfaces, and glossy.
