I think it also showed how CoC is irrelevant. Having it is only politics and damage.
If anything, 4.19 demonstrated how Linus is irrelevant to the kernel development process; it's a machine that effectively runs itself. Maybe some kind of figurehead, just there to act out sporadically to further the myth that only the highest-quality code makes it in the kernel.
