Upstream 4.14 LTS (the one that's supposedly supported for real unlike the upstream 4.4 with the newly revealed security model that makes it unfit for nearly any use) finally backported some many months old ARM Spectre fixes (which we applied already many months ago)

Of course they also forgot to apply a fix which is also months old, so their change is going to break some subset of ARM systems. I'll try to make note of when they realize this themselves..

There was no 'fixes' or 'stable' tag on the commit, so the only way it would have been spotted is via our process of reviewing all commits regardless of tags.
