I burn 700 calories at the gym. That means I can only eat 200 calories to be in a deficit? I am CONFUSED

If you need to be in a calorie deficit by 500 a day to lose a lb a week that means if I burn -700 and add +200 of food back into the diet.. I’ll be at -500 which is where I’m supposed to be at I think??? I don’t understand this whole thing
