It's free. I called my doctors office and said "I want a prescription for Paxlovid" and got it sent to a pharmacy. As long as you aren't on any of the drugs that it interacts with, you should be good. Granted I am 55, so I might be closer to elderly than you,

it totally stopped my progression,last Sunday I had gone from snotty nose in the morning to flat on the couch unable to do anything for more than two minutes in the evening. I got it Monday morning and was much better by noon, and cleared up pretty much by Friday.

I think they want you to have been in the first 5 days of infection, and some doctors are looking for some additional risk factor. I talked about my past asthma and said I was concerned about lung function, forgot to mention I havent needed an inhaler for 20+ years.
