I've had this thought too but I don't see much evidence that luxury travel bag buyers care much about an extra pound or two, which is what ultralight backpackers rearrange heave and earth around

you know how many of those guys have back problems? there's definitely a market

Sure but the compromises you make are tough to advertise. You save 1.5 lb for a market that never weighed their stuff, in exchange you don't have leather, you don't have a ton of built in organization, you don't have beefy side carry handles etc.
