To be fair, it's not about reducing the sea level. It's that you have to discharge the extra-salty water side product back into the ocean, which can have some detrimental effects. But I think that's just the NIMBY excuse. Israel gets like half its water from desalination.

Ya 55% on average from desalination and they reclaim roughly 86% of wastewater a year for agriculture ops- next is Spain at 19%.
