Liberal yimbys want to live in cities built like college campuses but could never support the rigorous policing of homeless people that make college campuses pleasant. Fantasy world ideology.
For the record I want the ultra dense walkable cities. I want to demolish city streets and build 12 story buildings on them, and have bike and walking paths connect everything. But I’m also realistic about what makes that sort of density at all tolerable.
I live in a city that's connected almost end to end with bike paths, it's like paradise! Love riding along a new part of trail in the middle of the city with the spouse and marvelling at how it used be perilous old train tracks we'd still ride on just to avoid cars
I don’t mean to be condescending— well actually, I do mean to be: have you ever visited any European or Japanese city? Lol
European cities definitely have homeless people but it’s nowhere close to SF levels (IMO)
Sincerely though, I would highly recommend a visit to Amsterdam. Walkable, bikes primary form of transportation, great public transit, clean(ish), bakeries/grocery always a stone’s throw away etc. And homelessness seemed to be under control from my outsider perspective
