i feel like homelessness is a complex sociological issue that's largely explained by housing costs
casting moral judgements on the homeless seems pretty dumb to me
i'm not naive, i know homeless people can be a massive nuisance, but on the other hand it's not entirely surprising to me that people without food or shelter care very little about being polite
West coast model of treating homelessness and drug addiction as an innocent disease isn’t working. Homelessness needs to be an unsustainable lifestyle. California will not let that happen
i agree - homelessness is not a drug problem, it's a housing problem
the reason the bay area has so much homeless people compared to other areas is not because people are uniquely morally deficient, it's because our local governments have repeatedly shot down housing proposals
The people I see out here are not a 1300 1br away from being productive citizens.
Their behavior is subsidized. This isn’t a moral judgement, it’s an economic one. They have a high preference for leisure and drugs and California provides both.
