Someone DM me and explain urbit
Conversation
It’s just a very new conception of what a personal computer is, nothing more/less
it’s slow + clunky + doesn’t do much for the time being because its fundamentals are still being laid out, but one day it’ll graduate from being a virtual computer into being a physical one

urbit is hard to describe because people overthink it and try to explain “what makes it different” – urbit is just a general-purpose computer, and a general-purpose computer can be/do anything

So this is like, purposely a bad explanation, right? Because to most people a computer is a physical object and nobody has shown me their physical urbit they bought in a store.

no, I'm genuine here, not trying to obfuscate anything: urbit is literally a virtual computer lol
have you ever emulated a game on macOS/windows/linux? retro games need to emulate being on an older system in order to function, and they use virtual computers to do this.

So it’s a virtual computer. That’s an improvement already flower!!

happy to help lol, this stuff is just weird to explain because it's hard describing computers and "what they do" or "what they are for" to begin with

Is it a computer in the sense that it provides and environment for running apps?
Replying to
yes, that's exactly what an urbit does - the default frontend experience right now is more or less a reference to how people use apps on phones and computers, it's just a grid:

each of these little tiles are "p2p" apps, in the sense that they were distributed to me from other urbits running on the network - in this sense urbit can also be described as an operating system for running a variety of p2p apps
