Sometimes I don't know and just throw out a more general thing - with requisite warning about the ambiguity of course. Takes time to narrow down and sometimes can be a team effort if you're close.

yes talking out loud and sorting through my thoughts with someone is beneficial for me too but some people aren’t suited for that /:
