A lot of people can’t even summarize an argument. If they agree with a famous writer and you ask them to summarize the argument they get mad and tell you to read the book.
These people are truly illiterate.

Books are best when there are multiple arguments that sequentially build on each other, but it's usually a sign of bad epistemics when someone gets convinced of the whole chain at once.

I feel like recommending books in a debate makes the one recommending the book look weak, id rather just say what I want from the book and just credit the author

Ya if you’re ever Debating online again for some reason and somebody tells you a thinker explained something then ask them to summarize the points
