When I double click an image in OS X messages it used to open a large version, now it opens this stupid bullshit, please fix it thanks

As a user I want to click dive more before being able to edit/save and image

Force Quit Finder and Messages from Activity Monitor temporarily fixes this until it breaks again

Did this suddenly start to happen? Or do you recall any events around the time this happened like updates, apps being installed, etc.?
