The idea of "networking" is a memetic cancer. It makes explicit a sociopathic element of friendship (career benefit), a move that cannibalizes any actual friendship. And no heartfelt sincerity will help you escape it - you are perceived to be networking, therefore you are.

networking is extremely fake. no one going to give you a job for showing up to a tech meetup. they'll give a job to their friends tho. making friends is real but it is Not Networking

This is why I break social taboo in person. A sociopathic climber will avoid you if you do this. Somebody who wants friendship (and isn't totally mind cucked) will enjoy the intimacy. Keep your friend group clear of networkers.

Need to contrast w/ something like an industry forum where people go there for specific help from a spontaneously ordered community like on social media or forums. The forum is designed for directly requesting free consultation that develops into true cooperation and kinship.

That is a fair point, but from my limited experience could it be the topics are specific and narrowly about programming vs broader issues involving people? Contrasting w/ My experience dropshipping on eBay in HS & meeting all these disparate small business folk eager to aid.

I think programming especially in narrow bits of process, is likely to have a right or wrong answer vs a more general thing where you’re in murky waters & different approaches yield profit and running a business “optimally” is intuitively subjective? Or maybe cuz it was 2004 lol
