I like the M1’s but to say it’s the endgame and then link to a $250 part to get basic usage out of it is what a poop head would say

ok, it works well and the MBA itself is like $900 so if you want this really great user flow it's overall pretty reasonable

Have been looking for a thunderbolt like that to drive 3 4k monitors off my m1. Some of the reviews for the one you linked mention latency issues due to software driving the displays vs hardware. Can you confirm/are there good workarounds or better docks?

I haven't had any latency issues, but I should mention I just code, use web browsers and do some modest photoshopping. I'm not really a videophile.
But for normal use like mine, I've seen zero issues.

Do you notice any difference between performance on the displays directly hooked up to the dock vs the 4th display on the usb to hdmi adapter?

I'm not sure which display is on that adapter so I think no
