why can't I buy the same SoC standalone and do the rest of my build myself?
I wouldn't have a problem with this if their products weren't twice as expensive as the alternative given the same hardware
also the history with vendor lock-in, right to repair...

the twice as expensive thing I'm getting from pre-m1, hard to make the comparison until competitors start adopting the approach
also I'm not saying they should go to hell forever, but I definitely don't want to reward the practice with my cash
