I am not worried about AGI going full skynet on us.
I am worried about quite good AI models rendering whole professions obsolete in the span of just a few years, and the economic and social upheaval that will come with that.
The fact that the "invention disrupts something" + "we adapt" + "we're now all better off" story has happened many times doesn't mean it'll happen with all future technologies
I do think it’ll happen, it’s just a matter of the delay. Maybe the machine can handle technological unemployment of 1% of the workforce per year. What happens when we suddenly see 10% of the workforce churned in 2 years? That’s a reasonable possibility imo
Yeah. In this case I also think it'll happen, but it may take a while, and in the meantime we'll be spiritually shaky (in addition to the workforce aspect you mention). I remain an optimist generally. But not all tech will necessarily play out the right way.
