For those that do, there's so many existing vacant ones.. If you take speculation out, people only really need one home..
Take AirBNB for instance.. its cool to "invest" there right now.. untill Gov jack up property tax while getting DP'd by inflation and rising costs..

No, that food cannot make it onto the market. Same with housing, what matters is the market.

If someone overstocks on food, its for their own consumption.. they have no intent to sell it at some future price, or keep it as an appreciating asset..
If someone owns multiple homes, its likely they only live in one and the others are acting as a store of value..

People speculate on everything that has a market: food, cars, stocks, etc. Houses are no different.
The way to bring prices down for any good is to have more supply. However home owners don’t want that, so they prevent new houses from being built.
