I get your point about cancel culture but also this conversation is about JK Rowling, America isn't the only culture center
Also nobody looking at the US from the 60s would say there's a monoculture, quite the opposite
i'm not really drawing a major distinction between the us and uk right now
jk rowling isn't the active player here, she hasn't said anything original, and what happened to her isn't original - the entire culture war + cancellation setup is classic american
even in the 60s i would wager there were strong regional accents, state level politics were more important than national politics, different areas had different cultural issues etc where much of that is flattening
but in yet other ways i agree it's more diverse
