got clowned for saying this too early on in the invasion but was right American culture reins more or less absolutely [and this is not good] there shouldn’t even be a monolith of American culture inside America and yet exceedingly there is

i'm not really drawing a major distinction between the us and uk right now jk rowling isn't the active player here, she hasn't said anything original, and what happened to her isn't original - the entire culture war + cancellation setup is classic american

even in the 60s i would wager there were strong regional accents, state level politics were more important than national politics, different areas had different cultural issues etc where much of that is flattening but in yet other ways i agree it's more diverse
