Fun fact, when prices increase radically for a commodity it incentivizes everybody to produce that commodity and the price goes back down. That's why you always read doom and gloom stuff like this and the world never ends and you forget about it.

That said, probably not gonna be a good time this winter outside of the 1st world/developed world/global north/whatever tf we're supposed to call it now in order to be tasteful. Developed countries will buy up the supply and the price probably won't come down in time.

Apparently planting season starts soon for wheat in Ukraine? I'm sure Polish and Romanian farmers are suddenly less interested in lettuce this year. Then there's the second and third best alternative grains, which will all get a modest increase in price but will keep mouths full.

Yeah, but I imagine that there will be no fallow grain fields this year. There will be pain, but there's are some levers that the farmer can pull on, no?

Hopefully, but apparently fertilizer has skyrocketed in price too (Russia is a major producer of ammonia). Not sure how easy it would be to convert corn fields to wheat, but that seems like it might be worth doing depending on which one is more calorie-dense per acre?
