If Putin banned 11 opposition parties under the pretext of war, just as Zelensky has done today, Western media would be likening it to a Stalinesque purge.

Now if he were banning opposition parties and shutting down their news stations and poisoning and imprisoning their leaders during peacetime then I'd think THAT is some dictator shit

Putin didn't just do it in peacetime, he did it in the context of terror attacks (the Moscow theater and the school in Beslan) that he very likely instigated himself and tried to maximize casualties
