This is a bit of an exaggeration but also the Pentagon does explicitly state their goal is that no American soldier should ever face a fair fight. Being on the other side of that deal is not something NATO troops are used to.

overwhelming feeling from reading about foreign volunteers in Ukraine: western countries don't have soldiers so much as they have colonial policemen who can call in airstrikes. even ex special forces are deserting en masse after their first contact with enemy helicopters and jets

the reason why we can rely on that is that we pump billions of dollars into it. Like if you are trained a certain way, it's completely understandable to be uncomfortable in another environment. I'd like to see the Russian air force annihilate our F-22s

this is actually a big pet peeve of mine when it comes to when people talk about Vietnam by the way. We trained ARVN to operate in a battlespace where they always had air superiority (b/c we provided it), after Nixon's impeachment, funding was cut, so ARVN failed
