That includes dead, captured, or otherwise taken out of action. The CIA reported 2-3k(maybe it was 3-4k) dead so the 12k figure should be about correct

Armored carriers can carry 11 soldiers 1070X11 thats 11770 just by hitting those if we assume they full with soldiers. These numbers could actually be higher or lower. No one would be going out to enemy lines to count bodies, the number reflect what they can see.
