imo the west kinda blew its load early on sanctions. Now I’m not sure what we’ll do if Putin carpet bombs Kyiv. And if that’s the case, then why wouldn’t he?

Putin's internal propaganda sort of forbids it. It's all about the historic role of Kyiv as the cradle of Russia, Ukrainians and Russians are brothers, etc. Even dictators require some official source of legitimacy for things and need to maintain an image conforming to it.

Yeah I hope so too. I don't see him doing to Kyiv what he did to Grozny, but I am afraid that if Ukraine continues to hold it'll get a lot worse than it is now.
