Maybe it’s just because it’s fun to talk to a foreigner but it seems like people in the UK are better socialized than Americans. Casual conversations come much easier.

I found people in Austin Texas noticeably friendlier and more welcoming than in Vancouver BC. My theory is that warm temperatures make warm people - they're happier and in a better mood and more likely to talk to a stranger.

Yes that's definitely true too. Hard to be in a bad mood when you're having fun travelling! That energy is definitely reflected back at you. In Austin though I had several people start conversations with me, which almost never happens. Usually I initiate.
