generalizations never work for america. ive been living in Texas a year and people are so fucking friendly and easy to talk to here. also was good in Virginia where I grew up. NYC in between which is its own beast. im reminded of this tweet:

the difference between europe and america is roughly just: americans comprise the most morbidly obese people on the planet *and* the fittest outlier health nuts alive, but everyone in paris is skinny fat

lol, I like being abroad bc people like me a lot more. Instead of thinking I’m socially awkward, they just think I’m American and so chatting is way easier imho

I found people in Austin Texas noticeably friendlier and more welcoming than in Vancouver BC. My theory is that warm temperatures make warm people - they're happier and in a better mood and more likely to talk to a stranger.

Cold as shit here. I think it might just be fun to be in a different country and that changes one’s approach to people and thus their response

Where in the UK are you? If you’re in London I’d say no one is socialised, when I travelled alone I had to unlearn everything I’d picked up as a Londoner who’d never spoken to a stranger before
