I defy anyone reading this to name me even one practical use case for NFTs

NFTs can be used for so many different things that you're inviting history to make a fool of you if you dismiss them. Even if I were sure that most current uses of NFTs were bogus, I'd never dare to say that all possible uses were.

Shared databases for items that can be used across multiple video games. Could be lots of fun if designed correctly.

That would be up to the developer. They would just let you import a set of pre-permitted items. In theory you could have items made by a 3rd party that anyone can use. But it’s only about provable ownership and ability to trade. The dev still has to make it work in the game

Depends. Could be composability with a previous version of a game. Could let the dev create a marketplace they take a cut of between all games. Could be a new game that wants to boostrap up on existing items that people know. Hard to say. It's not been tried before.

I think the ability to create new way to trade and use cosmetics, which is the cash cow for games these days, is a problem with enough upside that people way smarter than me at monetization will make it work.
