I have a feeling YouTube Shorts will be a big point of discussion this week at #SMW. Lots of professional curiosity about repurposing TikTok content there vs creating custom content for each platform. Whatโ€™s your take?

Surreal to see a right-wing zealot following Chairman Maoโ€™s playbook so thoroughly.

John Swartzwelder wrote 59 episodes of The Simpsonsโ€”more than anyone else in its 32 year history. Lucky for us, he distills his best writing advice into 147 words. "I always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible, putting in crap jokesโ€ฆย Show more

Happy Motherโ€™s Day to my favorite NASA aerospace engineer who worked on Skylab (+ Apollo + the Shuttle + the ISS): Carolyn Griner ๐Ÿฅฐ Mom somehow found a way to make history while also always making us feel loved and supported. A hero to so many, including 8 grandkids.

Happy 50th, Skylab! Our first space station launched into orbit on May 14, 1973. Skylab hosted three crews of @NASA_Astronauts, proving that humans could live and work in space for extended periods of time. Learn more with @NASA_History: go.nasa.gov/3nVqFmz

Love this quote from Capital One advertising vp Malcolm Simpson at our Creative Ladder ATL event today: โ€œSometimes you can have 8x10 dreams and share them with a 3x5 mind, and you walk away discouraged.โ€ #CreativeLadderATL2023

Finally surpassed 100 pull-ups a day for the first time in over a year. When I restarted this time, 45 felt like it'd kill me, but glad I was able to slowly work my way back up.
A chart labeled "Pull-ups Per Day" shows 45 pullups at the start, followed by slow progression leading to a most recent total of 102.

Friday is our first event in Atlanta and I'm nervous just because the city and creative community are so close to my heart. But everyone on our team has put their whole hearts into making Creative Ladder ATL an amazing experience for rising talent and I can't wait. ๐Ÿคž

This ad is lovely but Iโ€™m not sure my empathy can extend to sad rich dudes who play Switch in public without headphones.

One thing that stood out to me while interviewing personnel at the Grand Prix here in Miami this weekend was that nearly all of the teams mentioned safety concerns for US races. With events in FL, TX, and now NV โ€” gun violence is a true cause of worry for some team members.

Thatโ€™s admittedly still old, but I think itโ€™s so bizarre that the last King Charles, No. 2, was like โ€œletโ€™s just remake the old ones and act like this never happened, cool?โ€

Reminder that Britainโ€™s crown jewels were actually melted down and sold by Oliver Cromwell, who (accurately) called them โ€œsymbolic of the detestable rule of kings" and "monuments of superstition and idolatry.โ€ Todayโ€™s scepters, crowns and whatnot are mostly recreations made ~1660

AI doesnโ€™t move creativity forward. It flattens and commoditizes creativity. That can be helpful as a resource but it also is likely to put us on a path to cultural stagnation.

Automation in late-stage capitalism isnโ€™t about efficiency and creating comfort. Itโ€™s about narrowing and controlling the sources of new ideas, reducing the cost and organizational threat of innovation.

The whole point is to invent robots to do the work no one wants to do, not to invent robots to do the jobs that people love. How are we messing this up so badly

If it weren't for AdweekChat, we never would have had the confidence to launch the podcast Yeah, That's Probably an Ad, now well past the 300-episode mark. And I like to think its legacy lives on in hundreds of connections that might not have been made otherwise.

The goal of AdweekChat was to make more people feel like they were directly connected to the newsroom and the industry. I do feel like we accomplished both, and I feel like Adweek became more visible and accountable thanks to initiatives like the chat.

All things must end, and it looks like Adweek has sunsetted #AdweekChat, which I launched on July 30, 2014, during my time as its first social editor. I'm not sadโ€”9 years is a hell of a run for a weekly social eventโ€”but am thankful for all the people it brought into my life.

Until the internet existed, my sister and I constantly wondered if weโ€™d just imagined this show. Think our Fox affiliate aired half a season around 1985 and then dropped it.
