didn’t expect Wandersong to be quite so long & involved: i’m delighted. it is a total joy, frankly. it holds a lot of the same tonal colour as some of the better paper mario games, and isn’t afraid of pathos. there’s a lot of sorrow in it, too, and emotional nuance.
for a game that looks like a pure technicolor-feelgood experience, it instead refuses tidy endings (so far) and truly subverts what it is to be a hero. it looks at rejection, disappointment, the crush of mediocrity, jealousy - it is, frankly, a big league emotional time.
there is a sequence during a band’s performance where you, the bard, & miriam the witch, just dance and talk for a while. the music is playing & you’re talking about pain, and failure, and how hard it is to keep going when you’re rejected by what you believe is your calling.
this isn’t the only moment in the game that has sank into me like a secret, or an understanding or something. it is not a game about being a hero, or being The One, it’s a game about doing your best and being kind along the way. which is the scarier route, in life, isn’t it?
i think it’s a piece of work that in parts is about ambition, and realizing that the story of life isn’t about you & what you want to do. the sword isn’t always going to fit your hand. what a huge thing. i hate that we’re almost done, but i can’t wait to see what happens.
also, you can learn to dance as well as sing (which comes, especially towards the end, with some very beautiful thoughts about connecting to people and the scope of the universe) BUT importantly one of the dances is also a dab and we’re screamingpic.twitter.com/1iusxC42bW

it does smack of earthbound in some ways but is also really, really unique too? i’m slightly floored by it
