after reading so many glowing reviews on goodreads for the writing & world building of the fanfics romilly king stole to make her "books", i (perhaps in vain) hope that attitudes about the quality & skill of fanfic writers starts to change.
*all* fanfic writers aren't good writers, but there's a significant portion of them that are. & it really bothers me how derided writers are for writing fanfic. I've read plenty of published novels that are laughably bad & plenty of fanfics that are absolutely outstanding.
being published by a publisher isn't a reliable indicator of quality. some writers self publish. some writers share their work for free. it's the *writing* that determines its quality, not the means by which it is available to readers.
AND! you know who determines writing quality? the reader. I've read plenty of things that i thought were terribly written & saw other readers praise the writing. what works for me doesn't always work for someone else & vice versa.
