If masks don’t work, then why is it so important to get them for medical workers? If masks do work (including for doctors & nurses in hospitals), then why wouldn’t we use them everywhere? Why isn’t N95-for-all the centerpiece of our response instead of lockdowns?

We don't need N95 for all. Basic masks for all are sufficient to reduce spread significantly. Czech republic controlled the pandemic with people making homemade masks, for example.

N95 masks are very cheap and easy to mass produce. Much easier than ventilators. It’s like we want to build mainframes when a bunch of cheap servers will do.

Surgical masks are my choice working all day in the hospital. N95s are really hard to breath in- most people will end up just using them improperly (nose out etc).
