Very interesting new preprint by Eran Bendavid and colleagues reports seroprevalence estimates from Santa Clara county. Great to have seroprevalence work start to emerge, but I'd be skeptical of the 2-4% seroprevalence result. 1/8https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.14.20062463v1 …

Implications of this study (50-85x prevalence or 0.08-0.05% IFR using SCC data) are incompatible with real world NYC data - 12199 deaths / 8.4 million. Even if 100% of NYC were infected that’s 0.14% IFR as an absolute floor.

Those are the 2 biggest outliers and their numbers would not be applicable anywhere else.

Overstating of deaths due to covid has to be considered. How many of the 12,199 truly died as a direct result of covid-19? Are the covid-19 deaths in NYC being counted with the same process as flu/pneumonia deaths of prior years?

          The count is still escalating.

Yeah, it took me about 12 seconds to decide to make that calculation and to do the math when I read this yesterday. Their claim just doesn’t make sense.
