You're not wrong; I just think people are focused on stuff that matters more to patient care, and we can get behind that. Now, if duty hours are increased to an extent that patient care suffers, I think it's a totally different discussion.

Look: among residency applicants, NYC hospitals' reputation re: ancillary staff support is well understood.
It makes the fact that everyone's embracing their new roles and responsibilities so readily that much more meaningful. That's the climate we're in.

Not sure about other staff but to my knowledge, MDs in my institution are NOT getting extra pay for working longer hours or working on COVID units. This doesn't mean that housestaff don't need a union, or that they shouldn't get paid more. But in NYC it's all hands on deck.
