The sensitivity of the test is “less than optimal” with percentage estimations as low as 50%. So is a negative result really that useful given that is cannot rule out..... this is my concern.

yes for high risk healthcare workers with concerning symptoms if there isn’t testing scarcity should test twice to prevent coworkers spread. Probably all mod-high risk inpatients as well.

I'm aware of testing limitations and the mediocre sensitivities of current tests. Are other hospital recommending their staff have two negative test swabs prior to return to work?

No- bc of test scarcity. But given 60-80% sensitivity and risk of harm to patients and coworkers it should be mandatory IMO. FAHZU protocol to test patients twice or combine neg test with CT, require 2 neg test for discharge.

if we ever get high output testing as promised some of us at my shop are advocating to test all inpts 1x and those with resp issues twice if neg given downside risk to employees of false negative.

Our hospital has moved to wearing surgical masks at all times while providing patient care, regardless of COVID status, as another means to reduce risk of transmission between patients & HCW. But yes, there are major limitations of testing in North America.
