Many screening algorithms I‘m seeing instruct NOT to test for coronavirus if the patient tests positive for influenza.
Lemme say this loud & clear.
If a patient is positive for flu, their conditional probability of also having coronavirus is the SAME. THE SAME.

Is it? If you have an alternative dx, would you still use one of the limited number of tests? UCSF folks have tweeted about a <2% positive rate which is lower than the national 10-15% positive rate (simple ratio from cdc site). Doesn’t rule out, but does change odds.

IMO this is only a valid strategy if there is testing scarcity. Recent Stanford grand rounds cast doubt on that data- they reported co-infection rate higher than 2% and it's not clear how Chinese got that data (ie did they test a lot of viruses or just a few)...

I've been campaigning to test all of our inpatients with any respiratory symptoms. Even if probability is low, potential downside of infecting dozens of healthcare workers is immense... getting the tests is another story
