Somehow got accepted to
@WUSTLnews for undergrad. I knew it was tough for#premed. I was young with new freedom, I didn’t prioritize school over social life. I nearly flunked out of pre-med, having to repeat Gen Chem after freshman year and had to retake it1 reply 0 retweets 9 likesShow this thread -
Even after remediation and taking Orgo back home, I still managed to barely pass. I continued to do poorly in my pre-med courses. I didn’t know how to study. My premed advisors told me to look into other career paths and that I had no chance of getting into med school.

I took these to heart and nearly quit pre-med halfway through. I took a year off after college to do research and a post-bacc year
@marshallu in my hometown. That was the most difficult year thus far. I was stressed, constantly#grinding, and had no confidence that I’d make it.1 reply 0 retweets 10 likesShow this thread -
I applied to med school and got rejection after rejection. Finally,
@MUSOMWV invited me to interview and I got accepted to the only program that interviewed me. Nearly not getting into med school, my whole persona changed and I#grinded again, not taking anything for granted.1 reply 0 retweets 13 likesShow this thread -
Residency apps came along. Coming from a small school, interviews were hard to come by, even with the stats. I didn’t have big names writing my recs, many programs hadn’t even heard of my med school. Many interviewers told me I was the first from
@MUSOMWV to interview ever.1 reply 0 retweets 8 likesShow this thread -
Interviews made me feel small, sitting next to people from top medical schools. I knew I wanted to come back to
@WUSTLmed. I remember walking along campus with my family one day when mom told me “you’ll be back.” I didn’t believe her then. Weeks and weeks went by w/ no response.2 replies 0 retweets 12 likesShow this thread -
I sent out emails to the programs I was most interested in, mostly met with a cordial reply that I would not be considered for a residency position. I had reached out to WashU and I got a response...waitlisted. I was devastated, why interview me off the waitlist?

I didn’t give up. I reached out to my chair of medicine who sent out a personal email to the PD. I got the interview! This was my one shot to show them how much I wanted to be
#herewithus Match day happened and the rest is history.1 reply 0 retweets 11 likesShow this thread -
For those that have doubted themselves like I did, for the underdogs like I am, for those with a chip on their shoulder like I have...if you truly want something, go for it. So excited to serve the program and again, so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chief Resident!
