Unpopular opinion: step 1 pass fail is a bad thing. With less objective differentiators, public biases show. Harvard gets in > Wisconsin. Man > woman. White > non white. Extrovert > introvert. Tall > short. Thin > obese. Christian > nonchristian #medtwitter #medstudenttwitter

For everyone discussing the Step 1 change to pass/fail -- why is there so little discussion of this 2019 study finding Step 1 hurts black/minority students? Black students are equally intelligent but do worse on Step 1. #Race #MedTwitter #BLM https://journals.lww.com/academicmedicine/fulltext/2019/03000/Examining_Demographics,_Prior_Academic.28.aspx … pic.twitter.com/kvidUD2p4u

And you feel with more “subjective” measures this will get better?

I think it is an assumption that Step 1 is more objective.

As a person of color I’d much rather take my chances betting on myself against a “biased” multiple choice test rather than roll the dice on the more subjective biases that bring us homogenous CEOs, corporate boards and upper management.

As just one personal example in every hospital I’ve worked at the majority of RNs were filipino- And yet how many make it to the leadership positions??? They’re non-existent. I would love to meet them.

That's a totally important opinion. Thank you. I still disagree that Step 1 is more objective. It reflects the way people perceive and treat people of color, just in a different way.
