terrific discussion! some days I feel like I should be proud of my meager 200k monthly twitter impressions... then i log onto Instagram and see all of these “premed life” influencers who have 150k+ followers for having abs or a nice butt 😂

Great share! One of the keys that @FutureDocs & @WrayCharles brought up that really resonated: Mission-driven content!

yep- unfortunately in my experience younger generations are averse to twitter where genuine discussion can be had and they’re all on instagram which is all glamour and production over any real substance.

Lots of young people are on twitter. We live in a world where The New Yorker and People are both magazines, wildly different magazines, but both are mags. Instagram and Twitter are both microblogging sites but they are wildly different. Twitter is not for everyone & that is okay

maybe it is a west coast or institutional thing (ucsf/ohsu perhaps excluded?) but i would guess at least 10:1 in my neck of the woods actively browse instagram:twitter and ratio getting wider- I can’t get anyone to sign up and i’ve tried :/

This discussion is just beginning, none of this stuff is static. I’m sure Instagram will find its role. The key is for us to establish fundamentals around this wildly changing playing field. Hence: need for White Paper.

There are def some cool medical instas I follow that do it well (rishiMD for example). I know my co-residents aren't on Twitter much..I myself didn't get into it until this year but after experiencing how great it is, ive spent time convincing other residents to get in on it.

I show them my feed and how to connect on the platform in tangible ways. For example, finding the lead author on a paper they're reading then following that person on Twitter. Or following a conference hash tag to see Qs or talk summaries. This seems to make a difference.
