The 1st-line oral treatment for iron-deficiency anemia is: Ferrous sulfate 300 mg qhs (60 mg elemental iron), taken on an empty stomach (2h after food) with Vitamin C to enhance absorption. it’s getting more popular to do MWF every other day dosing to decrease hepcidin levels and side effects and improve absorption (https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/lanhae/PIIS2352-3026(17)30182-5.pdf …)
