A tweet above links to a JEMS article that says that stroke ambulances “saves lives”- does @jemsconnect have any peer reviewed studies that show that stroke ambulances reduce mortality? If so, can you please share them? That headline isn’t scientific rigor- it’s clickbait

And even if you take the most liberal definition of “saves lives” as preventing serious disability, stroke ambulances haven’t demonstrated improved neuro outcomes They are an expensive solution looking for a problem

Would you take tPa for yourself or your family in acute stroke? Based on literature, I'd say no

I'd decline, but I'd pray the CVA was amenable to clot retrieval.

I may differ from others on this, but I do think there is a pt population that would benefit from tPA in stroke, we just haven't figured out which ones yet. It all depends on severity of stroke & time window. All strokes are not created equal & it's not always black & white IMHO

I think there is a population that "might" be helped, however, that population is likely better served by mechanical retrieval.

Don't disagree...if I had a dense deficit & it was amendable to mechanical retrieval, would pick that over systemic tPA...but if it was not amendable to that would you take tPA or live with the dense deficit for the rest of your life? It all depends on what you place value in

I would take palliative tPA. It either works (no) or it won't and I'll bleed. But I'll take tPA and likely be left with a dense deficit statistically.

what if you factored into account the family you’re now leaving as dead or disabled might have to foot the extra $5-10k bill would you take it then?
