    You can judge the quality of an economist's applied work based on how comfortable they are presenting information from source documents by practitioners in the field, by how curious they are about what these people say, and by how much they know about the relevant institutions.

    Analytics has many failings (diversity chief among them) but a critical one is how STEM education creates analytically intelligent people who are inept at communicating. Approaching athletes who devote their lives to a sport and telling them their knowledge is invalid won't work.

    Seriously, just let podcast owners tag episodes as “top 5” and then call it a day. Getting into a new podcast is hard because I have to listen to the average episode rather than some of the best.
