California gasoline use peaked in 2005 at 15.94 billion gallons, when the population was 35.8 million. Today, CA pop is 40 million, 11.7% higher, but gasoline consumption in 2018 was 15.6 billion gallons. No, I don't think China's total petroleum use has peaked yet. It's road fuel use is near peak. But I have brought forward in time China's oil use peak from 2025, to early 2020's. I lay out the staged evolution of peak across global regions in my Oil Fall series.
