Normal "make path/to/foo.o" has this super long delay before actually building foo.o with current mainline, anyone else seeing this? It looks like 'make' is churning like crazy about somthing, maybe checking a lot of check header files?

You also now cannot force build objects outside of your current config, this is really killing me.
Some of that is known issues, see https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20190927093603.9140-1-yamada.masahiro@socionext.com/ … for most of the fixes. Don't know about the long delay one though.

FWIW, there's about a 3.5x difference for me between "time make fs/io_uring.o" and "time gcc <pages and pages of bla bla> -o io_uring.o" in -git.

Only 2x slower here compared to 5.3, yeah, somethings gone off...
